    Meet Recap/Upcoming week

    Hi all,

That was such a close meet last night!  I saw a lot of kids swimming their hearts out and having a great time.  That is what summer swim team is all about.  Seeing a child (the mom probably knows who I am talking about), be a full flag length behind on the breaststroke turn in the 100IM and then win by half of length of the pool because they pushed themselves as hard as they possibly could makes all the chaos worth it.  We ended up losing the meet 360-328 and were winning until the breaststroke events.  Our women outscored Roxboro 172-168!  I think if we had swam a full meet, we would have had a really good shot of winning.  I do want to appologize for all the confusion with continuing the meet after 9:30.  The team rep and I had decided that if the weather seemed shakey, we would keep going with 30 minute weather delays until 9:30 and then call it. When the storm basically split us and was clear after 8, we were trucking through events and we made the decision to swim all the individual events.  This was their last home meet of the year and senior night for their  oldest swimmers who head off to college next year.  That being said, we had some great performances and saw 38.46% of our times improve.  We had 3 standout point scorers:  Ellie Blake (30), Connor Obser (18), and Abigail Barnes (16).  We also had 4 people imrove on 3 or more times: Abigail Barnes (4), Graham Burr (4), Charlotte Miller (3), and Reece Underwood (3).  Great job to everyone!

This next week is very crazy with a lot of meets packed in!  We will have practice today, tomorrow, and Friday morning.  There is a meet on Monday, nothing on Tuesday, and then we will have our final practice (unless your child qualifies for the GRPA state meet) on Wednesday 6/28.  After ASA Championships, we will have our end of season award banquet the 2nd week of July.  Be on the lookout for information on that.

GRPA District meet:  For those swimming, we will see you bright and early on Saturday 6/24.  Warm-ups start at 7:15AM and the meet will begin at 9.  We have over 50 swimmers participating in this meet and looking to qualify for the GRPA State Meet.  GO BROOKHAVEN!

Monday Swim Meet @ home vs. Hammond Hills on 6/26-  Please mark your availability.  Also, if you have not fulfilled your volunteer requirement for the year and I will be posting a note, this is the final meet to do so.  Each family is required to volunteer for 2 time slots.  If you ended up jumping in and taking a slot but didn't fill out on the schedule, that is ok too.  We will keep registration open until the usual Saturday @ midnight.  This is our final meet and we will have a few surprises to make this a special meet.  Stay tuned!

ASA Championships @ Georgia Tech Aquatics Center!!!  This meet is on June Thursday June 29th at 4PM.  Warm-up time will be announced shortly.  We have over 50 swimmers signed up for the ASA Championships.
