Week 1 update and 1st meet tips

    Hi all,

I hope everyone is having a good end to the school year!  Just a reminder that we DO NOT have practice today.  We now have a couple of practices under our belts and while they were more chaotic (if that is even possible) because we were not at our home pool, the kids did great!  Now is the time to focus on our first meet.  We will have this 1 week of practice next week (M, W, and Th) and then the meet is on Tuesday 5/31.  Here is some relevant info to help you plan for the meet:

    1.  Sign your child up now if you plan to be there.  We will send a reminder out closer but we will close sign ups on Saturday at noon to give our coaches plenty of time to set up the meet.

    2.  Sign up to volunteer!  There are a TON of volunteer roles, especially at our home meets.  And all of them are important for making sure that the meet runs smoothly.  Trust me, you don't want to see a meet that doesn't run smoothly!

    3.  5&6 year olds swim their events at the beginning of meet and then can leave.  Some may be signed up for a 7&8 year old relay, so you will need to look for that. Most 5&6 year olds will only swim freestyle and/or backstroke and possibly one of the freestyle relays.

    4.  The coaches make the line-ups and with a team this big, they might not be super familiar with what strokes your kid can and can't do.  Just remember, this is a learning experience for your child.  Sometimes they will be entered in something they haven't really mastered yet and that is OK.  They might even say they are not doing that stroke.  Tell them to talk to one of the coaches.  The coach will give them pointers.  It always feels good when they finish a race after getting out of their comfort zone and achieving something they didn't think they could do.  They will start working on strokes at practice but some will not get enough practice to really excel in a particular stroke until after a few weeks.

    5.  Make sure you have ordered the team suit, a swim cap, and have goggles.  All this is required at the meets.

We will send another email as we get closer to the first meet with some additional day of meet instructions.  As always, let me know if you have any questions by emailing [email protected].

    Thanks!

    Michael
