Hi Barracudas,

What an awesome first ever showing at the ASA Championships for our Barracudas!  We got 2nd place in the Silver Division.  We had 1 gold medal, as well as several silver and bronzes.  Great stuff from our athletes!  We have 1 more opportunity for postseason swimming.  The GRPA district meet will be at Briarwood Park pool on July 9th and 10th.  The 11+ year olds will be on Friday evening and the 7-10 year olds will be on Saturday morning.  This is a qualifying meet for the GRPA State meet, which will be held the next weekend up in Cumming.  This meet is not officially a Briarwood Barracuda event.  The entry is through the City of Brookhaven Parks and Rec Department and we will be swimming with other Brookhaven swimmers.  Our coaches will be the head coaches for the Brookhaven team and we will practice at Briarwood.  Here is what we need to know:

1.  Is your child planning on swimming in the meet?  Please sign up for the meet like you would a normal meet by clicking on schedule and going to GRPA district meet and signing up.  5&6 year olds are NOT eligible  for this meet!!!  We will close registration on Tuesday 6/29 at midnight.  

2.  Once you have signed up for this meet,  please email a copy of your child's birth certificate to [email protected] and cc [email protected].  

3. In the email with your child's birth certificate, please indicate whether they would be available to swim in the state meet if they qualify.  This allows for our coaches to put together relays for those who would potentially be able to advance to the state meet.

4.  If you sign up, please Venmo $20 per athlete to @briarwoodswim.  This will cover the additional costs of having an extended season swim practice.

Things to note for the meet:

1.  Meet packet and rules are attached to this email.  Feel free to review.  All of the information about the actual meet are in there.  We can send out further information as we get closer. 

2.  Practices will resume on normal days with a slight modification to the times.  Practice will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6-8.  7-10 year olds will be from 6pm-7pm and 11+ will be from 7pm-8pm.  We will continue having morning practice on Wednesday and Friday from 10-11 (just 1 time slot for anyone who can make it, no need to sign up).  Morning and afternoon practices are reserved ONLY for those who are swimming in the GRPA.

3.  Final thing-  We will need volunteers for timing, organizing the bullpen, etc so please keep that in mind.  The city is also looking for any of our parents who want to run concessions to please volunteer.  Let me know if you are able to.  If we are able to, they are going to let this serve as a fundraiser for our swim program and we will be able to keep the money made off concessions.  If you are able to volunteer on Friday or Saturday, please let me know.
